Re: Is 21st 1/32 planes a good collection

Being plastic - they're great! They're fun to play with, the gear goes up and down, the pilots can be taken in and out, and best of all - you can't break anything on them - they're toys! Good loooking, basically historically accurately shaped plastic toys, but still toys! Like others have said, on the shelf with my other 1/32 builds, they easily pass the 3 foot rule - heck, I wish some of the 1/32 ones I built when I was younger looked half as good as these do! The only thing that keeps me from buying more is space.

My question is, how can 21st Century sell you a complete. workable, accurately painted 1/32 scale model/toy airplane for $15, but if you go buy one that you have to assemble, and paint yourself and do all the work, it's $50-100 or more?

Re: Is 21st 1/32 planes a good collection

but all have skinny, unrealistic-looking undercarriage, look VERY plasticky (if that's a word), and in NO WAY compare to large-scale metal diecast models such as Corgi's or GMP....

FVD, perhaps you and I need therapy, as I think we have a landing gear fixation which doesn't seem to plague anyone else........skinny tires and struts and gear doors that are too short (landing gearus Ethiopius)... ....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhh!...

Here, here...I couldn't have ariticulated such fine sentiments. I'm in total agreement with you and have nothing more to add.

My favorites are the Macchi 202 & 205 and these are superbly done and I don't
think we'll ever see other manufacturers who will make these....well maybe not for now anyway. Oh, did I mention that you can choose different schemes/liveries of famous aces and their mounts too! You know, 21st Century's 1:48 line is just as nice and for only $10 a piece how can you go wrong? I'm really liking my P-40N and Bf-109 G/K variants with unique liveries of the more commonly produced WWII combat aircraft.

Re: Is 21st 1/32 planes a good collection

I must confess that I've eyed this range with interest but never committed. I guess they're just not diecast. They do have some tempting models though, particularly since Corgi no longer do 1/32s. The standout model for me is the Corsair in three tone camo. Very tempting. Then there's the Macchi 205...

Try one or two, ZS-Van. You'll love 'em!
