Question F4U Corsair... BBI or 21st?

I've got a BBI F/A-18 Hornet, and just picked up their "Old Crow" P-51D. I'm not sure where to go for a Corsair, though. What's your opinion? Be sure to back it up!

Thanks!

Re: F4U Corsair... BBI or 21st?

I've got both BBI and 21st Century Corsairs to compare. I got the 21st first, and when BBI came out with their own Corsair, I gave away 21st Corsair toy. How's that for a back up! Seriously, detail for detail, and you do have the F-18 and Mustang to judge on this that BBI's Corsair WINS! (no brainer) hands down - even the pilot figure is superbly sculpted and very realistic unlike the cartoonishly looking pilots of the 21st Warbirds.

I agree the BBI Corsair is a little better on details then the 21st Century one has.
IMHO they are both great looking Fighters i have Boyington,Kepford and the Bunker Hill Corsair made by 21st and have a Marines Dream by BBi.
Get one of each and see for yourself...That's what i did.
To date i have about 15 of these 1/18 all over the house
I just got my TBM 1/18 Flight 19 Avenger...That is a great plane too.

Re: F4U Corsair... BBI or 21st?

I've looked closely at the two and the BBI is the same model with better details. I say this as the tail wheel is identical on both models. If they sold BBI out here in Washington I'd have bought one. Just gotta get what you can. Where are the T-38's
BBI is suppose to be making?

Thumbs up Re: F4U Corsair... BBI or 21st?

I would definitely buy the T-38 if made in 1/18 scale - preferably in NASA colors too.

Re: F4U Corsair... BBI or 21st?

Hi X,
I'm with you on that one. I'm mearly wishing they'd do that model in 1/18th scale. I think everyone has seen one at an airshow or fly over. I've seen one somewhere out on the net. If I find the link again I'll pass it along, and for sure the NASA scheme would sell out!

A Thunderbirds version would be okay too.

Re: F4U Corsair... BBI or 21st?

And if they do a T-38, then why not an F-5 Aggressor?

I would really like to see them make these in 1/18 USAF Thunderbirds T-38's.It be a great way to pay a Tribute for the Thunderbirds of 82 season.
I'll never forget that day on Jan 18,1982..
While practicing the 4 plane diamond loop, the formation impacted the ground at high speed, instantly killing all four pilots: Major Norm Lowry, leader, Captain Willie Mays, Captain Pete Peterson and Captain Mark Melancon. The cause of the crash was officially listed by the USAF as the result of a mechanical problem with the #1 aircraft's control stick actuator. Despite the fact that the accident investigative board had not uncovered any evidence to support this theory, there was heavy pressure from the pilots' families and top Air Force officials to arrive at this conclusion. During formation flight, the wing and slot pilots visually cue off of the #1 lead aircraft, completely disregarding their positions in relation to the ground. In this accident, this is the root cause for all four aircraft impacting the terrain, not just the lead jet with the problem.
Many pilots felt that the cause was most likely a result of the lead pilot's error due to a simple miscalculation, the equivalent of controlled flight into terrain.
