Two reasons why diecast is superior to plastic

It was a mild day here today; partly cloudy in the low 90s. I bought a 21st Century "Dogfights" pack yesterday, and left it in my truck. The windows were rolled down, and the package was not in direct sunlight. Here's what happened:

I love 1/144 scale planes, but I had no idea that they couldn't take the heat! Luckily, I was able to run back to TRU to and buy another set to replace my freshly minted landfill.

PostScript: If anyone would like these two damaged models, I am happy to mail them to you for the cost of postage

Re: Two reasons why diecast is superior to plastic

I had the same thing happen with some solid plastic castings of 1:72 scale aircraft that were shipped to me via UPS ground in very hot weather. I was able to restore them to their original shape by dipping them repeatedly in hot water until kinetic energy plus gentle finger pressure did their job. I doubt that this would work with an assembled kit-type model, however. The adhesive would crack or otherwise become unstable.

Re: Two reasons why diecast is superior to plastic

Yep Those little models didn't prove themselves very well! Many of my 1/18th scale are in my corragated garage that has reached 110 degrees. I have a huge vent Fan that Comes on at 99 none of these models have shown any warpage. Cars do get hot and thats why they break out windows for leaving ones pets in the car out here in Washington. I wonder if the gear on a DragonWings would have fared any better? Your not the first to do an oops like that! Just be glad it wasn't a plasma television.

LOL... you have to laugh or else cry. Sorry for your loss, maybe you could work up a diorama.
We do not have that problem north of the border,.... of course our summers are getting warmer.

Unhappy Re: Two reasons why diecast is superior to plastic

That looks very nasty. I wouldn't have anticipated anything like that happening.
