Re: New 1/32 Bf-109F/G's are now out!!!

Hi Guys I am new to this forum.
I was at Wal-mart yesterday here in Mich.and purchased a silver ME109. I have never seen a ME109 painted like this. Thought it was unique for that time period. Is this a rare paint scheme for the 109? Actually is a BF-109.

Natural Metal 109G-6

Hi Heavy Jet,

The natural metal Bf109G-6 with Erla canopy was a real aircraft. Photos can be found in the book "Jagdeschwader 300" by Laurent and Goyat, published in the US by Eagle Editions (pg 246). It is thought that the aircraft was stripped of paint to increase speed for chasing down Mosquito night fighters.

I've built two 1/32 models of this aircraft - once on commission and once for myself. Here are links to the articles and photos.

Welcome Heavyjet and fug202!!!!
I agree with what Fug202 said in that this plane was stripped of its paint to see if it would increase airspeed (similar to Mustangs being faster without paint) but this is the only example that I have seen to have this done..

BTW Ian, great job on that 109!!!! Glad to see a fellow modeler on the board..

Ian,
Welcome to the forum and a must say that is one of the best looking Bf-109 in a plastic kit that i have seen in a long time.
Great job at building that beautiful plane.
Now all i need is a P-51D "Cripes A Mighty" in 1/32.

Fug (Ian), those models are incredible -- very impressive, indeed, and welcome aboard!

(one can only wonder what a diecast metal version of that bird with the same level of detail would cost .. but man, wouldn't it be great to see!)

Re: New 1/32 Bf-109F/G's are now out!!!

The new "Blue 12" is my personal favorite, but just because I love the paint scheme.. If I had to choose for actual build quality and schemes, I would have to go for the new Corsairs.. They are absolutely great all the way around!!

One Blue 12 at Walmart tonight and I grabbed it. Way up front by the clearance toys...go figure. You're right, this is a fine model. Many more stencils than on other 21st C. planes. A very nice piece. Now bring on the 109s. For $15 they're amazing.
