He got the same way telling me the story. He said that he told them very casually that the next time Old Crow came in for heavy work, to do it. The next day he walked over to his parking area, and ther sat his ship in polished metal. His crew standing there with bloody and raw hands form the gas and what ever else they used to get the paint off. He said those poor guys never got the credit the deserved. No one knows who Gabreski's crew chief was. That is what he told me. It was a very moving story to have him tell it.
