| Re: How old is your oldest model? The oldest model I have in my possession is a Topping 1/40 scale F7F Tigercat I recently won in an ebay auction. The thing looks pristine, and dates sometime from the late 1940s, with markings that appear to place it sometime prior to 1947...ie no red in the stars and bars. Runner up is a Topping 1/72 scale F-86 which dates to some time in the early 50s. It is a close depiction of the prototype, with only the Buzz number slightly off, and a slight scraping on it. It also has its original box. I also have an Allyn D558-2 without the box, it appears to be 1/48 or 1/40 scale. I also just acquired a 1/48 scale Allyn F4D that came in its original box. Finally, for original Toppings, I have a 1/48 F8U-3 from the late 50s, though this one does have some decal damage, and lost its starboard side sidewinter fins (the missile is loose and taped at the bottom of its stand.)
All these models cost a pretty penny, but they are orginal depictions of historic aircraft from that era. I like them despite their lack of detail when compared to modern aircraft due to the fact that they are pieces of aviation history commissioned by manufacturers that are for the most part gone.
