just slapped the decals on there for the photo shoot. And some of them ended up backwards.  |
That is one of my favorite pictures of Pappy....They did that PR photo shot so fast the guy putting on the kill flags just messed up some how...and to this day the #86 Corsair would be Pappy most famous bird...Plus he never flew this one at all...It should of had #883 on it at least he flew that number along with Bob McClurg or #740 the "Baseball" Corsair..The USMC pilots didn't have the luxury of flying their own plane like the USAAF pilots did..They flew what ever they had to fly with.
