Are you talking about the one with the black 3 on the tail? The pictures I could find only show 3 guns on each wing. If that is what you are talking about, it is a cannon mounted version. However, I have never seen a picture of a cannon armed Hellcat that was not fitted with the radar pod. Some of the F6F-5N night fighter variant were fitted with flash suppressors on the cannon muzzles but the cannon did protrude quite a bit, almost to mid cowl.
 While in a store last week I saw IXO,s model of the Hellcat and I could not get over the length of the gun barrels. Like it looked like someone had fitted it out with a elephant gun. 
Not to get it mixed up with the cannon version I am sure I counted 4 guns on each wing. Was there ever a version or did IXO just streched the facts a little bit? |
