Witty Hawker Sea Fury Dutch Navy 860 Squadron

I was going to wait for the cool Australian Sea Fury but I saw the Dutch version at a good price and I couldn't resist. How often do you see Dutch Navy birds in any scale?

The aircraft modeled flew for the Dutch Navy's 860 Squadron. 860 Squadron got its start in the Second World War flying Swordfish off escort carriers. They operated the Sea Fury off their post war carrier Karl Doorman. Actually there were two Karl Doormans, one the former HMS HMS Nairana and the second the much larger HMS Venerable of the Colossus class. The later ship ended her career in the Argentine navy as Veinticinco de Mayo. 860 Squadron is now responsible for the helicopters based on Dutch warships.

This is my first Witty model- well actually got two others that I'll photograph later but this is the first I've looked at closely. The biggest problem is the prominent seam line between the wings and fuselage.

Overall it is not up to the standard set by the recent Corgi Swordfish and Gladiator releases but as it comes in about 30-40% less in the dollar department I'm willing to cut them some slack. I suspect most collectors will prefer the UK marked versions that are out there as they are more the classic Sea Fury and saw combat in Korea. And perhaps I'll get one down the road but a Dutch Naval fighter is something I didn't expect to get in this scale.

And I'll still get the Aussie one later....
