Re: Which Of These Sins Is A Deal Breaker When Considering A Diecast Model?

Last edited by Hornchurch : 02-20-2008 at 01:37 AM. Reason: Lineation
Various members--myself included---have voiced complaints about diecast models they purchased, or stated that thanks to one flaw or another, they would never consider a certain replica. I wonder, which of these common complaints or "turn-offs" is a deal breaker, as opposed to an annoyance but something we can live with?

1) Overdone, inked panel lines.

Can be offputting - not AS 'offensive' on Darker-colour-schemes

2) No pilot/crew figures.
One of our 'Erstwhile'-Crew members
RIGHTLY refered to the 1/32 Hurricane having a "Ronald McDonald" pilot !!!!!!!!!!
Just THAT alone would put me off buying the model - IF - I weren't able to remove 'Him'/'IT' from ruining said a/c.
Just my personal opinion here -
but I REALLY CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY SOME GUYS 'GRIPE' IF THERE'S NO PILOT/CREW ?
Yes, this IS my No.1 'pet-hate'
Do I want my a/c model in correct colours & dimensions looking 'CACK' for the sake of a Poxy-looking 'Crewman' (BLOB)
NO, I DO NOT) = Give the (stupid) figures a miss, please...... I'm 45, not 5 anymore!!!!!!!!!!

3) Poorly designed canopy with glaring gaps, overly thick frames, etc.

Has stopped me from buying 'F.M' s Ju.87 Stuka, for one example....... (missing 'framework')

4) Difficult to install and easy to lose "fiddly bits". = Not found that to be a prob'
5) A basic lack of detail on the model. = that will always happen = cut 'em some slack.

if said subject LOOKS like what it's meant to represent in 'Overall-
dimensions & proportion', I'm happy....

6) No stand or a lousy stand. = not an issue (for me)

7) Wheels-up options, without the appropriate part for the tail wheel( Dragon's FW-190s ). N/a

8) Missing parts like pitot heads, bombs, etc. N/a

9) Obvious gaps where key pieces of the model join together.

Yeah, STOPPED ME TOTALLY from buying Corgi B.24's (esp' Nose-Turreted versions)
Next from 'Crap' pilot figures, THE next major 'Flaw' with Die-cast........
The Corgi Avro Lancaster is PURE-CLASS (different-league) in this respect.........

10)Attempts to pass off one mark of a plane for another ( Witty's "FW-190A-5" which is actually an A-8 model )
Expected = production costs = if don't like, I won't buy.........
11)Poor mottling, bad paint job, wrong colors, etc.

That's why you WON'T catch me buying a 'Wellenmunster'-marked Ju.88 etc.........

12) Hard to justify prices' Varies.

I've 'Highlighted' my answers 'twixt' Epz's initial-text........
God, how I HATE crap-plastic figures ruining a model (looks so 'babyish')
Can't 'express' my Anger enough on that ONE !!!!!!!!!
Without question - the No.1 'Deal-Breaker' for me........
