Best airshow I remember was the 50th Anniversary of the Air Force at Nellis AFB. They brought over a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial flight and I actually was able to watch as they reassembled it for the airshow. Had a friend who worked at Base Operations and he took me out on the runway when they did the Spitfires test flight prior to the show. We were between the runways as the Spitfire took off. Watched as the pilot did some light acrobatics and then he rolled the Spitfire over and beat up the runway. My friend and I side stepped over as the Spitfire went flat out right over our heads, he was so low it seemed like you could count rivets. Some of the old warbirds at the show were P-39, P-63, P-40, P-47, Me 109 (Spanish job), P-51, and gobs more. I did several of the practice day weather briefs and actually got to brief Chuck Yeager (Flying a P-51 or F-86 that day cannot remember which). It was by far one of my more memorable airshows. I lived in base housing at the time and remember grilling out on the second day of the show as P-51 and the Me 109 did a mock combat above(Now that is the only way to grill a steak).
