I used Super Glue. Testors makes Super Glue for plastic models but it works on a wide variety of stuff. I get mine in the Wal-Mart model section. Very fast drying, very strong so you have to be careful. Worked well for me.

I try not to use super glue on any of my models. I too indecisive to do something that perminant, plus the last time I did it was about three inches away from the canopy and it fogged up. Though not as strong, and maybe not strong enough for the aforemention application, I always use white glue (elmers).
