Re: Question about ICM model kits?

Does anyone have any idea how good (or bad) ICM products are - quality-wise? Thanks for any inputs.

Hi FlyX !!!!!!!!

Once I'd read your initial post, I went to get the only two (unbuilt) I.C.M.'s (1/48th a/c) that I have in the cupboard behind where I'm typing this !

They are, the Yak - 7a (kit no. 48031) & MiG - 3 (kit no. 48052)

I've examined the sprues again, to comment on your request.
These are both very good, especially considering they were 'injection-moulded' in the Ukraine.

As many (modern) model-makers like, they have 'recessed' panel-lines (instead of raised, like the old Monogram kits of the 1970's)
I'd say they are more reminiscient of later 'Eduard' kits in their mould quality

Regarding the P.51 Mustangs (they made), I'm (reliably) informed by several well known London model-making friends, that they are very similar to the Tamiya ones, but cheaper (as Nockers says) & 'considered' a 'copy' by many

I seriously doubt that the plastic is to quite the same 'Grade' quality, but once it's made & painted, who cares ?

However, if the decal-sheets in my MiG-3 & Yak-7 are anything to go by, I'd buy an aftermarket decal-set, if I were you (of the Aeromaster, Eagle Cal, or Superscale type).

That would bolster the price up to nearer (or equiv' of) the Tamiya kit itself (1/48th)

The Tamiya P.51 'B' version comes with a superb sheet anyway - (Microscale - 'Gentile' 4th F.G. & 355th F.G.)

(I'd recommend that individual kit ANYDAY)

The decal sheets in the 8TH A.F. 'Bubbletop' '51's are thick & nowhere near as good, BUT, the Korean-War '51 sheet is (but, post-war, however, with it's Red line thru' the bar section of national-insignia)

Boxes/Packaging on the Tamiya kits is superb = very stout boxes, same can'tbe said for the I.C.M. kits I have ! (lol).
Hope that helps ?
