Lt. Col. Asa Herring
(I know Asa, but haven't talked to him in years. We are in the same fraternity - He actually helping me paint my first house in 1992. I think he was in a latter class and was never deployed in Europe during WWII. Asa had a distinguished career in the USAF. I have talked to him more - years ago - about his service in Vietnam where at one point he was flying single seat forward observation aircraft - low and slow. Also, I believe at some point in his career he was flying Phantoms - but I don't think he did that in Vietnam. Just a great guy.)

(Was shot down near Munich on April 15, 1945 and spent the rest of the war in a German POW camp.)
