| That looks to be a wartime ID model in 1/1200 scale. It is an Essex class ship, not the Enterprise which was part of the Yorktown class. I'm not up enough on the wartime ID models to tell you exactly who made it though it doesn't look to be a Framburg produced model. Possibly Comet? I believe Comet did have the names on the side as your second photo shows.
It is also possible it is post-war copy of an ID model. It looks fairly crude in some respects which is why I suspect it might be a copy. Usually on the US Navy ships they had a bit more detail present with at least the anti-aircraft guns along the deck noted. But also possible this was an early ID model produced while the ships where being finished.
A big series of Comet lots just sold on Ebay. They seemed to be getting $15-$20 per model depending on condition. |
Fabulous thank you for the information.
The wartime ID model rings a bell. Another auction lot I was outbid on was a wooden case about 36" x 36" containing wartime ID models of the German fleet. I was particularly pee'd off in losing this to the national news broadcaster on CBC (Mansbridge) who flew in to the auction hall with his handlers, ran this item out of everyone's reach then left letting his people settle accounts and take possession of case. Still cannot watch him on TV him after 20 years.
