For those who are waiting with baited breath for the finalists to be decided, Model Power's latest poll determining three new planes to be done--allegedly-- in 2008, has recorded 46,247 votes, which, I assume, represents the choices of about 15,400 voters. The top seven planes currently are as follows: 1) TBF/TBM- 8284 votes, 2)BF-110- 7761, 3)F-105-5926, 4) F6F- 5712, 5)AT-6-5388, 6) C-5- 5340 and 7) F-111- 4073. No other plane is even close to number seven. Of these, the C-5 mystifies me. Even if MP gives this plane an 8" wingspan, as I assume it will do for the Avenger and BF-110, it will look like it came from Lilliput. I have a similar reservation on the F-105. Will it be as small as MP's tiny Mig-23? Or will MP try to make it a decent size? |
Well, a C-5 model with 8" wings (assuming the model makes the cut) will still make a nice model. There's enough paint jobs over the last thirty years to keep the model going for a while. Heck, in the last three years, we've had some new Guard and Reserve units (Memphis, Martinsburg W VA, and Wright-Pat) re-equip with C-5's. Also, Dover and Travis have adopted new tail flashes in the last year.
Although, to truly do the C-5 justice, I'd like to see somebody release one in 1/144th scale...
