New from Dragon are these two Hanomag half-tracks, both Ausf. D vehicles of the 251/7 type. This engineer version with an assault bridge had already been released by Dragon before, but now these models are also fitted with a notable anti-tank gun, the so-called "squeeze-bore" 2.8 cm gun, designed to provide light formations with some anti-tank capability. It was I think in his thread "Today's Dragons in the UK" that MoMo included a very nice description of these most interesting weapons - don't miss it!
I haven't seen the real product yet, but again the pictures in The Flying Mule allow a decent review. When I first saw such pictures I immediately realized that something was wrong with these ones - model 60306 is labelled "Panzer Lehr Division, Southern Normandy", and what you see is plain dark yellow vehicle with... SS number plates!!! As regards 60296, the model is said to be an "unidentified" unit, has a 4-digit tactical number (1130) and a Wehrmacht (WH) license plate, and is painted with a 3-colour scheme. Upon closer inspection a divisional insignia can be seen on both the front and rear plates (...unidentified?), and chances are that this insignia is a yellow stylised "L" (I can't see it clearly in the pictures), the sign corresponding to Panzer Lehr Division. So it seems that Dragon labelled these two vehicles the other way round!!! So, 60296 would be a vehicle of Panzer Lehr Division at the time of St. Lô (the camo scheme and 4-digit tactical number support this), and 60306 would be a vehicle in an "unidentified" SS unit.
Regarding shape, proportions, detailing, etc., these models are again little gems to add to our increasing collection of Hanomag half-tracks by this manufacturer; there's no way I could imagine a better model of this historically relevant vehicle at this small scale - they're as accurate and detailed as can be!
