| I have about twenty Corgi 1/50 scale tanks and military vehicles so you would think I'd be in favour of more 1/50 models and figures. But the fact is I think they are a blind alley for Corgi and they often go for next to nothing on eBay simply because they made to many and not many people want them.
I have said many times that Corgi should get into 1/72 scale military vehicles to complement their 1/72 aircraft. Dragon have hardly scratched the surface of the vast amount of molds that could be done in 1/72 diecast. This gives Corgi an ideal opportunity to make soft skinned vehicles and the lesser known armor that so many collectors have been requesting. |
I'm not so sure that Corgi would be a good fit in the 1/72 military diecast market. They would be competing against Dragon's highly detailed, but high plastic content models, while Corgi likes its vehicles to stand up to at least a small measure of getting rolled around. If you look at Corgi's traditional bread and butter, it is 1/50 scale vehicles. 1/72 is a great scale for airplanes, but frankly, it is too small for vehicles to appreciate their detail and 1/72 figures are useless to look at without a magnifying glass. I think by adding additional figure sets (and hopefully heavy weapons) they may start reaching out more to the wargaming community who can appreciate their durability compared with the 1/72 Dragons.
